A pre-amplifier has to perform a series of complex and vital tasks
Its input circuitry must accept the entire output of
the source without being overloaded, while the frequency response
and level of input signals must be normalised. The signal then needs
further conditioning to ensure that the power amplifier is never
driven outside its operating parameters.
Exceptional overload capability is maintained over the
whole audio bandwidth. All our pre-amplifiers have a frequency
response to within ?dB between 20Hz and 20kHz and offer perfect
stability under all working conditions.
There are no switched filters, tone or loudness
controls on Naim pre-amplifiers: design at this level makes them
superfluous. They can never improve the quality of the signal, and
there is a sharp penalty for their use in terms of loss of musical
information.
We house the power supplies for our pre-amplifiers in
separate cases to avoid the degrading effects of magnetic fields and
pay very special attention to both earthing and the type of input
connector used.
